Walking Beest Design

I want to build a solar-powered robot based on the Theo Jansen walking "strandbeest" design (if you haven't seen this it's amazing!)

I made this out of cardboard to understand how the mechanism works. This is one half of a leg pair, and a walking creature needs 3 leg pairs or more (and runs off a basic drive axle at the top).

(Someone made a hamster-powered version.)

How to Start a Blog

1. Set up a blog. Don't worry about the design, just start posting. Get used to the feeling. (Blogger is good for this because it's so easy to set up -- http://www.blogger.com

2. Play with it for a week. It's OK to post a lot -- just make sure it never feels like a chore. Also feel free to stray from your topic - most blogs are about 70% on-topic. Try to provoke your friends to post comments (if you can provoke them to participate, chances are others will participate)

Also, spend a little time surfing a couple of the other similar blogs - maybe pick 5 or 10 and read them every day. When you feel so compelled, leave some comments with your URL. Participate in their conversations and they will reciprocate. If you can get them to notice your blog, it will help to build your streetcred a little.

3. You haven't played with it for a week yet have you? Well go do it!
